Nate Hansen

I have coached 15 seasons at the NCAA level. After graduating from Luther College, where I became a two-time All-American and NCAA National Champion, I was able to serve as an assistant coach at South Dakota State University. Next, I became the head coach at Simpson College followed by the opportunity as an assistant at the University of Dubuque.

I am still actively competing in freestyle with Team USA in the Veteran’s Division. I became a USA Wrestling Bronze Certified Coach and hold a CSCS Certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

I reside in Vinton, Iowa with my wife, two sons, and two dogs.

I am coming to NCSA with 15 years of collegiate coaching and recruiting experience at the Division I and Division 3 levels. My role at NCSA will be to assist athletes with their wrestling recruitment. Outside of work, I enjoy camping, attending pro and college sporting events, and staying active.

Before working for NCSA, I worked in the field of athletic development and promotions from 2015-2018. I served as the Head Wrestling Coach at Northwestern University from 2010-15. In 2011, I was named the AWN Rookie Head Coach of the Year and was the NWCA Division I National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2008. I served as an assistant coach for the Wildcats as our team placed 4th at the 2007 NCAA Championships. During my tenure at NU, I coached 57 NCAA Qualifiers, 24 NCAA All-Americans, 10 Individual Big Ten Champions, 8 NCAA Finalists, and 4 NCAA Champions (Jake Herbert 2X, Jason Tsirtsis, and Dustin Fox). During my time at Northwestern, the team placed in the top 15 at the NCAA Championships in 8 out of 10 seasons. In 2014, I coached Jason Tsirtsis to an NCAA Championship, Big Ten Freshman of the Year honor, as well as the Intermat National Freshman of the Year.

My recruiting experience at Northwestern was one of my favorite aspects of the position. I was fortunate to be able to recruit 3X All-American Brandon Precin, 3X All-American Jason Welch, 4X All-American Mike McMullan, and NCAA Champion Jason Tsirtsis. Both Welch and Tsirtis were named the top overall recruits in their classes while McMullan was ranked the top heavyweight recruit in the country. In 2014, I signed the #1 nationally ranked recruiting class by WIN Magazine which included three #1 recruits.

In total, I spent 15 years with the Wildcats. During my collegiate career, I qualified for three NCAA Championships. My collegiate coaching career began in 2000 after my graduation from Northwestern. I went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Business Communication from John Carroll University and I then became the head coach at Cornell College before spending ten years at NU. I currently reside in upstate New York. I am thoroughly enjoying my role with NCSA and I look forward to helping all of my recruits start their four-year collegiate journey.
